Background:
I am an attorney licensed to practice law in the State of California and before all federal trial courts and both the 5th and 9th Federal Circuit Courts of Appeal. I began practice as an associate with Mathews Bergen Vodika and Potash in 1979, became a partner with the firm in 1981 and a senior-named partner in 1985. After the retirement of several senior partners, I became the managing partner of Mathews Bergen & Grier in 1995. Mathews Bergen & Grier merged with DenHerder • Grier & Associates in 2016.
My legal career began as civil litigator, principally emphasizing the areas of personal injury, medical and legal malpractice matters. With a maturing practice (and clientele), I began to emphasize estate planning and related estate litigation when I became the managing principal of Mathews Bergen & Grier. That emphasis continues through the present. In addition, I represent various branches of the Fleet Reserve Association, VFW, and serve as general counsel to the Lemon Grove Rod and Gun Club.
I have three adult children, one is a general contractor, another an Army medic and the oldest, a VIP guest host at Disneyland.
I truly enjoy the nuances of the law, and assisting others in interpreting the law, whether through litigation, or through well-crafted documents. Outside of my family and my law practice, my interests include photography, poker, and firearms (particularly shotgun shooting including trap and sporting clays). I am a member of the Lemon Grove Rod & Gun Club and frequent shooter at its Alpine, California shooting range.
